Welcome

Shortly before President's Day Weekend in early 2012, after months of waiting for an epiphany regarding when I'd get my second tattoo (and how exactly it would look), it came to me.

A few years earlier, when I was thinking about getting my first, the idea floating around my head was a combination of the Maryland flag and my family's initials.  After deliberating and visiting an artist to get his feedback, I decided to simplify things and get only the initials.

Fast forward a few years and there I was, still itching to get something Maryland-related, as I'm very prideful of my state.  I was a bit turned off by the flag idea -- even though it's the prettiest in the Union -- so when I thought about doing an outline of the state limits instead, a big fat light bulb went off.

I traced it, placed it on my arm to confirm the orientation and headed off to Jinx Proof, where they did an incredible job.

The goal of this website is simple: I want to compile a gallery of state-inspired tattoos submitted by you, the citizens of this amazing country of ours.  Outlines, mottos, flags -- let's see 'em.  I'll post them as they're received, and hopefully, ultimately, we'll have ourselves a collection that represents all 50 states and the District of Columbia (Taxation Without Representation? Not on my watch.).

Go ahead and send a picture of yours (preferably larger than 600x) to unitedtatsofamerica@gmail.com and be sure to include a brief description.  You can tell me where you got it if you'd like to endorse your local parlor (include a link if you've got one), and if you want me to include your name, just let me know, otherwise I'll post anonymously.

Cheers!
